Entomophobia (also known as insectophobia) is the irrational fear of insects, anthropods, and anything similar to bugs (slugs, worms, etc.) This isn't the uncomfortableness shown when handling a bug or having a bee land on you; this is a shock-causing, anxious feeling of dread caused by even the very mention of bugs. This is a very common and understandable fear, although slightly more prevalent among women then men. This fear is extremely hard to avoid, as bugs are all around us, so people with entomophobia may counter their phobia by carrying tons of OFF™ or other bug repellent.
More specific cases of entomophobia can be apiphobia, the fear of bees, and arachnophobia, the fear of spiders.
