Eoliths (From the Greek 'eos'=dawn, 'lithos'=stone; attributed to J. Allen Browne in 1892; also called 'dawn stones') are crudely chipped pieces of flint that were previously believed to be crude man-made tools from the stone-age. No longer! Experts have determined that these were actually created by natural forces (such as glaciers) perhaps half a million years ago.

They were initially discovered in 1885. After about twenty years, the belief that they were man-made was challenged, finally being decided (for the most part) after several more decades.
