Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise. Their shows on British television
throughout the 1970s and most of the 1980s were hugely influential on the
formation of later British comics, having a profound effect on both
mainstream comedy and the early 80s new wave of "alternative comedy".
In particular Vic Reeves has said in many interviews that his comedy
idol is Eric Morecambe.
