Fearful Symmetry

Two
janitors watch as an
invisable force shatters
windows and
cars and seriously hurts a man. An
elephant suddenly appears later on the road 43 miles from the zoo and is found dying.
Mulder and
Scully investigate the mysterious happenings. Mulder believes that it was an invisable elephant that did the damage.
They talk to Ed Meecham the
cheif of operations at the
zoo who tells them that the elephant has died and that her cage was found locked. They then talk to Willa Ambrose, a
naturalist, who tells them that her and Meecham were not friendly that he may have let the elephant out. She says they may be dealing with the W.A.O,
Wild Again Organization who believe that capturing animals is a crime against nature.
The talk to Kyle Lang, the local leader of W.A.O. Lang exibits suspectal behavior, that he says all animals should run free, but says he did not do anything. Still, Mulder and Scully are unsure of their suspects.
Mulder talks to the
Lone Gunmen who tell him that the zoo is near a major
UFO spot and that no animal there has brought a
pregnancy to term.
Scully keeps an eye on the W.A.O and tracks a member to the zoo. She is grabbed by Meecham who shows her a tv where she can watch the
member. They see the member outside a
tiger's cage. Suddenly, with a flash of light, the tiger is outside its cage and the man is
mauled to death by the invisable tiger.
Mulder suggests they talk to Ambrose's
gorrilla, Sophie, who can communicate using
sign language. Sophie repeats 'light, afraid.' Mulder then asks to have an autopsy performed on the elephant, which shows that althouh it has never mated, it was pregant. The tiger turns up across town and is killed by Meecham. The same was shown for the tiger, that it has never mated but was still
pregant. And because of the incidents, the zoo is closed.
Mulder believes that the animals are being abducted by aiens and artificially inseminated. They question Sophie and she responds 'Baby go flying light' although she has never mated.
Sophie is taken into
custody for transfer to her
homeland. Ambrose goes to Lang, who shows up later at Sophies cage and is
crushed to death. Mulder follows Meecham who is going to
kidnap Sophie on Ambrose's request.
Mulder suddenly finds himself in a locked room with the
panic-stricken Sophie and is charged at. Dazed, he sees Sophie disappear in a blinding flash before she motions to him. Scully and the police find Mulder unconscious in the empty room. Ambrose translate Sophie's final
gestures as 'Man saves man.'
Sophie turns up miles away and is
killed by a car. Mulder thinks that aline abductions may be a way of
conservation.
