(German: "Free Conservative Party")
German political party, active from 1866 to 1918.
The Freikonservative Partei was formed as the result of a split in the Conservative ranks. The "Free" Conservatives, contrary to the "Old" Conservatives, supported Otto von Bismarck's nationalist line.
After the Unification of Germany in 1871, the party was renamed Deutsche Reichspartei ("Party of the German Realm"), and achieved an important political rôle as the political base supporting most of Bismarck's policies, and as exponent of the interests of big agrarian and industrial interests.
The party was dissolved following the German defeat in World War I, being absorbed into the Deutschnationale Volkspartei ("German National People's Party").
