A Frosty is a dairy dessert sold at Wendy's, and the only dessert item on the menu at most Wendy's franchises. It comes in four sizes: junior (6 ounces), small (12 oz), medium (16 oz), and large (24 oz). These sizes are one step down from Wendy's drink sizes, so a large Frosty is the same size as a medium soft drink.

It is not a milkshake, nor is it a smoothie, as some people who have never had one often believe. It is actually chocolate ice cream of the soft serve variety. You cannot consume it through a straw, so don't try.

Frosties are born inside a Frosty Machine, which consists of a metal hopper that feeds mix into a barrel. Inside the barrel, the mix is frozen and stirred by a big, vaguely corkscrew-shaped piece of plastic. The finished Frosty comes out of a nozzle at the front of the machine. In its ground state, proto-Frosty ("Frosty mix") is a liquid that is kept refrigerated in plastic bags until it is poured into the hopper of the machine.

Periodically, Frosty machines have to be lubed. If your Frosty tastes like lube, send it back and request that the crew clean the machine out.

If I had the money, I would buy a Frosty machine, add amaretto or Kahlua to the mix, and then have a party advertising "Frosty shots." Your average Wendy's manager will probably not let you try this on their machine.
