High school
physics. My teacher is one of those tired old men who only know what they know because they were once excited about what they were learning.
My friend Tamara sits in the front row. She taps her foot all the time in class -- a little too excited about anything and everything she learns. She asks too many questions.
Every day since we learned about Einstein, she has asked Mr. Warner where the "e" comes from in e=mc^2. How did the speed of light get into equations on the relationship bewteen mass and energy?
Mr. Warner has always ignored the question. Today, when Tamara asks it, he turns from the blackboard, stares her down, and says:
"God."
She never asked the question again.
