HNIW is an
acronym for hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane. It is a relatively new explosive, first being
synthesised in 1987.
Uses being looked into for HNIW include a
munitions propellant and a
blasting explosive. Unlike the great majority of so-called "
military" explosives, HNIW is very difficult to synthesize without "proper" equipment.
