HNIW

HNIW, molecular formula C₆H₆O₁₂N₁₂. Ideal detonation velocity 10300 m s^-1 at a density of 1980 kg m^-3.

HNIW is an acronym for hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane. It is a relatively new explosive, first being synthesised in 1987.

Uses being looked into for HNIW include a munitions propellant and a blasting explosive. Unlike the great majority of so-called "military" explosives, HNIW is very difficult to synthesize without "proper" equipment.
