This hit me the other day as I saw an HP advertisement.

HP is no longer an engineering company, but a marketing company. There comes a time in every corporation's life when they make the transition from being about making cool things to making things cool, and HP has hit that point.

Their advertisement showed the original garage the company started in, and proclaimed that they were going to get back to the garage. But no one ever says "I'm not stupid" except to prove the converse.

That day was a day I wept, for another institution had lost its magic.
