First there were- the standard responses:
Evasion, denial and redirection
Next were a series of stories,
elaborate and compelling- containing characters
both real and imaginary.
Then I became vague, forgetful
full of gray and lacking substance.
Eventually, running out of options
there was the truth, or
something that approximated truth,
a variation on the theme.
If the story was different from the actual events, well
I can't be blamed,
having had so little previous experience.
