First woman to play baseball professionally, she made her debut on May 30, 1997 for the Saint Paul Saints. Needless to say, she faced a lot of prejudice and chauvanism during her first season but was a great publicity draw for the Saints. She was traded to Duluth in 1998.

Borders was profiled on 60 Minutes and in the New York Times. Her first season is also chronicled in the book Slouching Towards Fargo.
