Intel Science Talent Search is a
competition in which
high school students compete for the distinction of best junior
scientist in the
United States of America. It is entered mostly be
New York and
California students and recieves an average of 1500 applicants per year.
In mid January semifinalists are chosen. These are the top 300 entrants. Then at the end of January, finalists are picked and sent to Washington D.C. to present oral presentations. These are then judged and a winner is chosen. The winner recieves a large scholarship.
Intel is seen as a great distinction. In some areas, such as Long Island, New York it is even considered common place. Most states do not have active science research programs.
