Internetspeak, like newspeak, is an offshoot of the English language attached to our generation's use of instant messaging (or "iming") and online chatting designed to shorten word length and cut down on typing. Internetspeak makes common use of numbers, acronyms, and symbols to replace common words or sounds. In such words grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation are cast asunder in the interest of creating quicker and more efficient conversation. Some examples are: lol (laugh out loud), gr8 (great), ^_^ (cute anime smilie), and :) (happy face).

Now for the reader's pleasure I present a translated Shakespeare:

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?

u r more luvly and more temper8:

Ruf winds do shake the darling buds of May,

And summer's lease hath all 2 short a d8:

Sometime 2 hot the i of heaven shines,

And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;

And every fair from fair sometime declines,

By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd;

But ur eternal summer shall not fade

Nor lose possesion of that fair u owest;

Nor shall Death brag u wander'st in his shade,

When in eternal lines 2 time thou growest:

So long as men can breathe or eyes can c,

So long lives this and this gives life 2 thee. ;)
