Born in
1974, James Lavelle left
school at
16 to concentrate on his
burgeoning career as a
DJ. He quickly gained a
reputation for his
unique sound, and in
1991 founded
Mo'Wax records at the age of
17 with a £1,000 loan from a friend.
Often credited as one of the founding fathers of trip hop, his label represents some of the most innovative artists in music today.
Lavelle teamed up with DJ Shadow and in 1998 released UNKLE's Psyence Fiction, which debuted at #4 on the UK charts and featured an impressive roster of guest artists.
He is now incredibly wealthy, and is rumored to have a uniformed attendant in his home to prepare and serve blunts.
