Catalan sculptor, designer and engraver.

Josep María Subirachs was born in Barcelona on 11 March 1927.
In 1945 he was a free student at the "Escola de Belles Arts" of Barcelona and was taught by Enric Casanovas in 1947 and 1948. Subirachs had his first solo exhibition in Barcelona in 1948.

His work started out rather simple and natural, Mediterranean, but later became very abstract. Most of his work can be seen in Spain, primarily in Barcelona. Probably his most wellknown work is the sculpture on the Passion facade of the Sagrada Família in Barcelona.
