Born 30 Oct 1956, Juliet Stevenson (also listed as Stephenson) is one of Britain's most respected stage and screen actresses. While she has never really achieved star status outside the UK, she is constantly in work, and her inclusion in a cast adds a cachet of classto any production.
Her first major TV role was as the wilful, deaf Barbara Mallen in the TV adaptation of Catherine Cookson's Mallen Trilogy of novels, and her best-known work is probably the role of Nina in Anthony Minghella's Truly, Madly, Deeply starring opposite Alan Rickman as a woman who grieves so intensely for her dead lover that she brings his ghost back. Minghella created the play and the role specifically to showcase Stevenson's talents and bring her to a wider audience -- a gamble which paid off with a number of awards for th production.
She has the rare talent that allows her to look anything from extremely plain to completely beautiful, a speaking voice to die for, and a power and range in performance that has to be seen to be believed . She does a lot of work reading audio books, especially classics.
