A group of domed red sandstone mountains, the Olgas are located in Australia's Northern Territory about 35 km west of Uluru (also known as Ayer's Rock). Mount Olga, the highest of the group, reaches an altitude of 450 m. The barren and rounded shape of the group is attributed to aeolian erosion, caused by sand continually being blown against their surface. Like Uluru, the light results in the Olgas appearing to possess a wide range of colours, depending on the hour of day and the weather conditions.

One of the most remarkable features is a gorge between four of the domes, called the Valley of the Winds, where ghost gums and wildflowers grow. The Olgas were first seen by Ernest Giles in 1872 and were visited by William Christie Gosse in the following year.
