Jail where many Irish political prisoners from 1798 to 1924 were imprisoned. Fourteen leaders of the Easter Uprising were executed in 1916. The last inmate to be released in 1924 was Eamon de Valera, future president of Ireland. In the Name of the Father was filmed inside the building because it is a very large, perfectly-restored, non-functioning Victorian prison of the type found in the United Kingdom.
