Eponymous chief of Clan Lamont in the early 13th century, he was the grandson of Fearchar, founder of the clan. His name is believed to come from the Norse Laomann or Lagmadr, meaning "Law-man". It is believed that this relates to some aspect of the clan's duties to the throne of Dalriada. While the dates of his birth and death are unknown, his signature adorns the a deed granting land to the Monks of Paisley Abbey, giving Clan Lamont one of the earliest documented histories in Scotland.
