The first American picture magazine. Known for its photojournalism, Life was launched in 1936. From its founding through to when the magazine ceased regular publication in May 2000, Life employed some of the greatest photographers of their day including Robert Capa, Alfred Eisenstaedt, W. Eugene Smith, Margaret Bourke-White, and Gordon Parks, among others. Currently, Life has moved on to being an online presence, publishing commemorative magazines and books as the opportunity arises.
