Lnx4Win is a feature
of Linux Mandrake
which allows installation of Linux on a Windows partition
. Instead of using UMSDOS
like most other Linux-on-Windows solutions, it places a Linux ext2 filesystem
image on the FAT
partition and uses a loopback
device so that it appears to be a real ext2 partition.
In my experience, Lnx4Win is nice for people who want to try Linux without making permanent changes to their computer (i.e., by partitioning the hard disk), but there is enough of a performance hit that you wouldn't want to use it every day.
It makes a nice way of transferring Linux from one computer to another though--just copy the disk image and a few startup files...
Do not confuse with Win4Lin.
