The Love Formula was proposed by Dr. Harry Wolper, biologist extraordinaire, in the film Creator. Played by the magnificently smashed Peter O'Toole, Professor Wolper explains his formula to an inquiring grad student thusly:

(Dr. Wolper): The Love Formula. Take the number of times you think about the lady each day. Subtract from that number the number of times you think about yourself, each day. If the result is more lady and less yourself, then it's love.

(Grad): I don't know, I've been thinking about Barbara an awful lot lately.

(Dr. Wolper): What is so very neat about this formula is that "a lot" plugs into it beautifully.
