MARTIAL LAW IN POLAND took place in Poland between 1981 and 1983. It started on December 13, 1981 so three days ago we had next unpleasant anniversary of this event.

On the 13th of December, the General Wojciech Jaruzelski - the chancellor of the Polish government announced the Martial Law in a very fateful TV speech that all Polish people were listening to. [ 1 ]

Now it is obvious that the decision of bringing on the Martial Law was not in accordance even with the Constitution of the People's Republic of Poland (PRL, Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa).

People's Republic of Poland was an official name of Poland after Second World War. Poland was under Russian rules according to the Yalta Conference - an agreement between Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Today, many people in Poland say that in Yalta, Poland was sold to Stalin for other concessions to Great World Powers. We Polish people had been under Soviet Union rule for more than 40 years (between 1945 - 1989).

The Martial Law in Poland was an attempt to destroy a very big movement of freedom - "Solidarność" - "Solidarity". It stopped "Solidarity," but only for a few years.[ 2 ], [ 3 ]

It is necessarily to mention that "Solidarity" had almost 10 000 000 of members. It was an amazing movement of freedom that had never occurred in Europe and in the World before (please read in English: [ 4 ]). Thanks to "Solidarity" we have free Poland now. Our country’s name has changed from the People's Republic of Poland to the Republic of Poland (Rzeczpospolita Polska). Everything has changed. Now Poland is the member of NATO since 1999 and a member of European Union since May 1, 2004.[ 5 ]

But unfortunately, some people responsible for bad things from the past have still avoided the justice.
