An IP network protocol designed to allow a variety of media devices to exchange information over a TCP/IP network. Primarily used in a broadcast news environment, MOS allows a variety of devices to be controlled from one central device or piece of software. This limits the need to have operators in multiple locations throughout the studio environment. For example, multiple character generators can be fired from a single control workstation, without needing an operator at each CG console.

MOS is an application of XML (Extensible Markup Language) supported and developed by various vendors of broadcast news hardware and software.
