Harry Allard's classic book about an elementary school teacher who decides to teach her class a different kind of lesson.

Miss Nelson is a harried teacher. Her kids take advantage of her at every chance they get.

One day, Miss Nelson doesn't show up for class. Instead, the class gets a substitute teacher named Viola Swamp, who is about as close to a Salem-firewood witch stereotype as you can get without a broomstick.

After a while, Viola Swamp goes away and Miss Nelson comes back to the welcoming arms of her students. By comparison, they realize, she's actually a very nice teacher.
