The term "mojo wire" is used to refer to a fax machine. The word originated in Hunter S. Thompson's days working at Rolling Stone when the first primitive fax machines were introduced in the 1970's. Thompson used the term frequently in his writings. The fact that he chose to use the word mojo (meaning magic) to describe the new technology smacks of his style.

The term is also used by a Rolling Stone editor in the movie Almost Famous.
