Your life in cardboard
Stored in the garage,
wheeled out to a car now
your life
in cardboard.
Meticulous records;
photo albums, letters
packed away.
Your life -
bringing joy.
Your life -
giving hope.
Your life -
stored away.
Stored in the loft now,
never wheeled out
your life
in cardboard.
Rhinoceros
I love you because you're ugly.
I need not dress up for you
but love the me beneath
the me they want.
Eggshell surface they want me to be
but I can strip it away in the dark
and be free.
I love you only in shadows.
In this life we have no bodies
but shadows, images
to speak with.
Their waves may overwhelm us
but we can break through in the night
and be free.
I love you because you're ugly.
I need not dress up for you
but love the me beneath -
the me they want
but never get.
Sleepless Dreams
I don't want to sleep tonight.
In sleep, I have no dreams
but a playground for another
to enter the darkness.
His House of Mirrors
all around me;
His lying words
and nevermores
Drown your soft sweet
laughter, your
eyes, your truths,
your ever-afters.
I want to sleep tonight.
The dawn holds much of you,
but here I cannot hold you -
awake in sleepless dreams.
Morning moon
The moon above the sea,
as big as my thumb
passing, a slow train, through
the clouds to come
Down to the sea and steam
the water like aspirin.
Five minutes later to rise
and I would have missed
The setting of the moon,
tainting all this gloom
This was meant for me
an earlybird reward.
