Giving away stock or merchandise to customers of friends can be a waste. On the other hand, if it wins repeat custom, then it is worth it in the end. Always try to impress customers, and one way of doing this is to give them a bit extra for free. No matter how small it is, ensure they are made aware that you are doing it “out of the goodness of your own heart”. Try to flatter them, but don’t over do it.

Statistics show that if a person has a good experience, they will tell 2 people, but if they have a bad one they will tell 10. You want their repeat custom, and the two people they tell to come along. If you are not impressing them, you may not see them again.

Remember the cost of giving stuff away though – and don’t go bankrupting yourself in order to impress.
