In the election of 1912, Theodore Roosevelt ran under a new platform of the Progressive Party (switching from his previous affiliate, the Republican Party). During his election, he supported the idea of "New Nationalism." New Nationalism was a plan with many purposes. First, it attemped to create a social welfare legislation. It also attempted to reduce the power of the judiciary branch of our government. Last, it planned to set forth new acts in the area of women's suffrage to give women equal rights. Although Roosevelt did not win the Presidential election of 1912, many of his ideas were passed by later Presidents throughout the years.
