The Silmarillion
Orodreth was the second son of Finarfin and the father of Finduilas. He joined in the revolt of the Noldor and marched into Middle-Earth with the Sons of Fëanor. There he ruled over the tower of Minas Tirith under the command of his brother Finrod. He defended it successful throughout the Dagor Bragollach, but was finally forced to flee by Sauron in the year 457 of the First Age. He moved to Nargothrond where he was regent. There, the brothers Celegorm and Curufin conspired to overthrow him, but Orodreth drove them out before they could complete their plan and he was named King.
As King, Orodreth kept his realm in isolation from the affairs of the outside world. He did not join the armies of his kin in many battles, but he was finally presuaded by Túrin to at least guard the areas around Nargothrond. Because of this, Morgoth sent a vast number of his army, led by Glaurung, to Nargothrond. Orodreth led his army to meet Glaurung, and were slaughtered at Tumhalad.
