Short for "Propaganda Due", P2 was a secret society founded in the 1970s by Lucio Gelli within the "Grand Orient Lodge of Egyptian Freemasonry" it originally recruited exclusively among third-degree Masons. It eventually expanded to include more than 950 members of the Italian government, along with many respectable bankers, business men, etc. Its purpose was the removal of communists in power, and to prevent communists from coming TO power in Italy. To this end, it rigged elections, masterminded bombings, and various other illegal activities. It received funding from drug running, and even cuts from the mafia for its help in use of the Vatican bank for money laundering purposes. Most interesting of all however, is that more than half of the groups' funds were supplied by the CIA as part of its GLADIO initiative.
