Ptolemy most commonly refers to Claudius Ptolemaeus {a.d. 127-151} a brilliant mathematician, astronomer, and geographer in Alexandria whose Ptolemaic system reigned true until Mr. Copernicus came along. Ptolemy was Greco-Egyptian and was originally from Helen.

Ptolemy could also refer to any of several kings of the Macedonian dynasty that ruled Egypt 323-30 b.c.
