In the
original Japanese version of Parasyte, Shin names the parasyte that matures in his hand "Migi," which translates to "righty" (because it's his right hand.) However, when
manga are
localized for English readers, it's
common practice to not only translate the
Japanese into
English, but also to print the pages as
mirror images of their original selves so that they read from left to right instead of right to left (as is the way of Japanese publishing.) To accomidate for this,
Mixx Entertainment (who handled the American version) had to change the parasyte's name to "Lefty."
An
alternate method, as employed by
Dark Horse Comics for
Blade of the Immortal by
Hiroaki Samura, is to actually
cut and paste each of the frames so that they appear as they were originally intended by the artist.
