Order Pelecaniformes

An order of six families, 9-10 genera, and 67-68 species of fish-eating, seagoing birds whose principal characteristic is their webbed feet.  Other common characteristics include long bills and necks.  The Pelecaniformes are closely related to the order Ciconiiformes (containing storks, among other things).   Former names for this order include Steganopodes and Pinnipedes. The order name is also frequently spelled "Pelicaniformes" for some reason.
