Originally a name for a model of a camera produced by the Carl Zeiss Foundation, later the name for the part of Carl Zeiss which ended up in East Germany after WWII.

Pentacon is probably most associated with the Pentacon Six, a medium format camera that is shaped much like an SLR, except twice as big. It was the basis for the later Pentax 67 family of cameras, which are still being produced.
