Peredur was the character developed into the later model of
Percival and Parzifal. His father was Ewfrac and he was a seventh son.
The
syllable "Per" occurs in all forms of the name. Interestingly, this character is the hero around which the tales of the
holy grail, in
Arthurian and other legends, revolve - and the word "Per" in Brythonic celtic means "vessel", or "bowl". The earliest tale of Peredur is one of
revenge, but tales of bounty-hunting also
abound.
