An extremely odd 1974
rock musical written and directed by
Brian De Palma. Part
Rocky Horror, part
Faust, part
Phantom of the Opera, part
Hitchcock and part
Twilight Zone (it even has opening narration by
Rod Serling).
The film stars Paul Williams (who also wrote all the music for the film), William Finley and Jessica Harper. I'm not generally a big fan of 70s rock and roll, but the music really is extraordinary, and the movie is well worth watching on DVD.
Coincidentally, pay close attention to the end credits. Sissy Spacek is credited as a set dresser. She went on to star in Carrie in 1976 (also directed by De Palma).
