This is a bacterium native to the Southeastern United States. It is mainly known for afflicting the European Wine Grape, Vitis vinifera. Thriving in the moist climate of the Southeast, Pierce's disease usually infects native grape varieties, which are largely immune to its affects. However, unfortunately, it is brutally fatal to the European Wine Grape. This is why you dont see vineyards in the Southeast.
