The Pinzgauer
cattle breed is named for the
province from which it comes in
Austria,
Pinzgau; the first
records of its existence there are from the
seventeenth century. It is a very well-liked
breed, because it usually does not suffer from the two conditions
ranchers find most difficult in other
breeds:
eye diseases (particularly
eye cancer, which is one of the most reprehensibly disgusting things imaginable) and problematic calf
births, which require the sort of
manual assistance portrayed in
City Slickers. They are also fairly indifferent to
insects.
Pinzgauer also posess excellent musculature, and their meat is well-marbled and popular with beef distributors.
