player character

A set of statistics and descriptions that define an alter ego for someone playing a role-playing game. The real-life player pretends to be the player character during the course of the role-playing game.

A person who is in the foreground in your life; you consider them to have desires and motivations of their own. Someone who is interesting as a person in their own right. Someone who is a character in the movie of your life, as opposed to an extra. In contrast to a non-player character.
