The full slogan, as seen on bumper stickers and buttons is:
Pro-Child, Pro-Family, Pro-Choice
The meaning behind this slogan has several parts. On the broadest level, it attempts to refute the stereotype that pro-choice advocates, and feminists in general, are anti-family, that they hate children, that part of the "feminist agenda" is to encourage abortions and prevent motherhood.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Feminists and pro-choice advocates are
- Pro-Child - The pro-choice movement strives for a day when every child will be wanted, welcomed, and cared-for. To be pro-child, it's not enough to protect a baby before it is born; human rights do not begin at conception and end at birth.
- Pro-Family - But they don't necessarily agree with the standard conservative definition of "family". A family doesn't have to be one male father, one female mother, their 2.5 children and a dog.
- Pro-Choice - Fundamental to the pro-choice movement is the belief in a woman's control and autonomy over her body. No one has the right to force a woman to bear a child against her will.
