German architect and archaeologist. Born 1855, died 1925.

Robert Koldewey took part in archaeological digs in Greece, Turkey, Italy and Iraq. He is most famous today for his excavation of Babylon (1898-1917), using modern archaelological methodology. His findings were published in Die Tempel von Babylon und Borsippa (1911) and Das widererstehende Babylon (1913).
