Like the
Marchigiana, Romagnola were brought to
Italy in the
fourth century A.D. by the
Goth tribes, where they were bred with native
Chianina and grew accustomed to the rough terrain along
Italy's
Adriatic coast. However, while the
Marchigiana are thought to have
Asiatic lineage, the Romagnola are believed to posess partially
Indian ancestry (the
Goths wandered around quite a lot, and brought their
livestock with them).
As a result of their disparate genetic composition, the Romagnola are well-suited to most climates and environments, and are capable of sustaining beef production and herd growth in any number of circumstances.
