The Sony SPC-700 is a co-processor chip inside of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) that handles all of the sound and music processing. The SNES communicates with the SPC-700 through four 8-bit I/O ports. The chip also has 64K bytes of onboard memory.

"SPC" is the short term for "SPC dump" - a 64k file containing the state of the SPC-700 chip inside the SNES. When combined with an appropriate emulator such as SpcAmp or the SPC plugin for Winamp, allows your computer to play music from SNES games - perfectly.
