A bizarre retail chain in
Mexico. A Sanborn's may contain:
- A cafeteria
- A restaurant
- A bar
- A gift shop
- A news shop (with English language stuff)
- A music shop (usually expensive)
- A chemist's
- A tobacconist, selling overpriced cigars
- A convenience store
It is like its own miniature universe, self contained and air conditioned.
Big Sanborn's, like the Sanborn's de los Azulejos (stunning building) in downtown Mexico City, may contain all of the above.
The food in Sanborn's is, if not especially cheap or tasty, usually quite good and safe. Besides, they are used to foreigners, and will have an English language menu.
