Australian Radio School Service

From Alice Springs in 1951, this Australian service began broadcasting school lessons for isolated children in remote stations in the outback regions of Australia. At first, lessons were provided in a one-way direction, but later lessons added a question and answer format at the end. The School of the Air coordinates with the postal system for homework. Recently, e-mail has been employed as well. The school still operates, and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2001.
