In the world of Mac OS, another handy folder tucked away in the System Folder. It's similar in function to the Startup Items folder, but items placed in the Shutdown Items folder are launched when the machine is about to restart or shut down.

Files, folders, applications, and aliases can be placed in the Shutdown Items folder. Practical uses of this functionality include running a disk checking or file backup utility automatically before shutting the machine down.

You can switch items in the Shutdown Items folder on or off through the Extensions Manager. Items that are switched off get moved to the "Shutdown Items (Disabled)" folder.
