Snow Storm

If I had seen this snow storm
in the cinema
with it's fluffly texture
and sparkles more magnificient
than a field of engagement rings
I would have said,
"It's not real."

I have lived here all my life
I have seen more dramatic blizzards
In my youth, I would only see
the glimmering crystals
and snow weighted branches
not the danger in snow white's embrace
I clapped when we would lose control
My mother, white knuckled
her instinctive arm protecting me
as I slid toward red lights

I am no longer immortal
Jaded by mistakes, tempered with caution
My fingers clenched on the wheel
trying desperately to find my own roads
I fear this beauty
I still see the sparkles
but I am happy to be home
