The Forward is a historically Socialist, secular Jewish newspaper founded on April 22, 1897. Its motto used to be "Workers of the World, Unite!", though now it is considerably more bourgeois, catering to older liberal Jews full of nostalgia, and carrying Jewish-interest news, politics, and culture.

The Forward was originally published in Yiddish (as the "Forverts") and at one point reached a daily circulation of 250,000. In 1983, with circulation declining, it became a weekly paper. Now it is published in English, Yiddish, and Russian.

Its website is www.forward.com
