The fist mass murder that I can recall hearing about was the shooting spree at a Luby's Cafeteria on October 16, 1991 in Killeen, Texas. George Hennard drove his pickup truck through the front of the local Luby's and, armed with two handguns and plenty of ammo, went about his business killing 23 people and injuring 20 more. One of the women not killed in the shootings was Suzanna Hupp, who later ran for and was elected to Texas State House of Representatives pretty much solely basing her campaign on legalizing the carrying of concealed weapons. According to Rep. Hupp, were she armed, she would have been able to end the shooting spree in Killeen with minimal loss of life. Now that the concealed carry law has passed in Texas, Hupp seems to continue to devote most of her political energies on protecting gun companies and "gun rights." Frankly, Suzanna Hupp has always struck me as a woman who has many issues to work out but has instead decided that the answer to any problem involves a lead slug and a small charge of cordite. And I'm not saying that just because I'm some gun-hating bleeding-heart liberal.
